ART They say you can’t take it with you but this time of year, it’s difficulty not to think about all that stuff we’ll carry over into another year. The Luggage Store’s third annual juried show takes on the seasonal challenge of dealing with the loaded objects of security and burden. The theme is baggage- of the psychic, Spiritual, physical and emotional variety. With 45 artists included, it’s a varied and surprisingly well-tooled bag. Themes range from literal excess poundage, essential and bulky reading material, and those Disney fantasies that ferment in a corner of our collective consciousness. Ken Sitz’s minimalist brick of eigth-track tapes tweaks the space-consuming collector mentality, but family and love remain the weightiest and most prevalent concerns. Numerous artists make use of tattered snapshots but Katina Huston’s gown sewn from rose petals is a particularly haunting and lyrical reminder of an elusive longing that cannot easily be packed away.
